The Optare Option - New Buses on Route S1 15/06/14

Rushing at t'Junction
Quality Line OM06 on Route S1, Mitcham Junction (Aubrey)

Along with the first diesel Optare Metrocities for London, Route S1 also had a short extension to Lavender Fields, which is a residential area near Mitcham and Colliers Wood.

These buses have Mercedes engines which are like engines on the SoloSR. Drivers seem to not always like these new buses in general due to the 'numerous problems' these new buses have, 'especially Optare' buses.

A journey on OM07 soon beckoned, which led to quite a sprightly ride on the bus, but with the familiar Mercedes engine noise.

Whilst deliberating at Banstead, Lewis and I then stumbled on MCD01, which proved to be a different ride altogether!

It also has blinds for many of Quality Line's routes, even if they aren't complete blinds.

Eventually MCD01 was blinded for S1 to Lavender Fields, so we went back to Lavender Fields.

After a talk with the driver about these buses at Lavender Fields - the driver prefers the MCD01 due to the different engine which is 'better' and 'has less problems than the other Optare products that [Quality Line] have'.

The driver gave us a thumbs up on the shot as the bus turned round the mini-roundabout at Lavender Fields.

  1. Do you know which number MCD01 (YJ14BFY) was showing on the back blind? Due to confusion over E16 to Ewell or 467 to Copt Gilders when it should of been S1 to Lavender Fields. This is Poor driver organization as this bus should of been prepared on S1 before changeover.

    1. This was during a blind scroll so there was no problem here at all.

  2. I wonder if the S1 Metrocity has blinds for S3/463/470 and other Epsom routes as I have seen OM07 (YJ14BFN) ON 411 to Kingston and MCD01 (YJ14BFY) on school route 641 to West Molesey.Which are odd workings. I would love to see the Metrocity on 463 and S3 as they have more older buses and need something.
